Adele Celebrates Being Female After Winning ‘Gender Neutral’ Award

Singer Adele is being targeted by the outrage mob after saying she “loves being a woman” while accepting the first gender-neutral artist of the year award at the 2022 Brit Awards on Tuesday. The Brits award shows’ separate best female and best male artist categories were replaced by the new gender-neutral category. However, it’s unknown what prompted the Brits to change the award category’s name.

The singer stated, “I understand why the name of this award has changed, but I really love being a woman and being a female artist. I do! I’m really, really proud of us. I really, really am.” Her remarks swiftly generated fury online, and she became the latest high-profile individual to be accused of being a TERF, or trans-exclusionary radical feminist.

She also received support from several prominent social media users. Onjali Rauf of Making Herstory, an organization that aims to end the enslavement and trafficking of women tweeted, “Thank you @Adele. Just, thank you. For speaking the 2 words are being vilified. Woman.Female.” Jane Symons of The Medical Journalists’ Association said, “A decade ago if someone had said a woman would be criticized for the thought-crime of saying she liked being a woman, I would have laughed at such a ludicrous suggestion.”

Adele has not spoken about the controversy that followed her speech, instead, she posted a thank you letter and congratulations to the other winners.
