American Officials Promise Consequences if China Gives Russia Military Equipment

Chinese President Xi Jinping

On Tuesday, senior officials from the Biden administration accused China of supporting Russia’s war in Ukraine since its inception. They warned that they would impose severe punishment on China if it provided military equipment to Moscow. According to the Free Beacon, Daniel Kritenbrink, the U.S. assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs, stated during his testimony before the House Foreign Affairs Committee that they would not hesitate to take action against entities that assisted Russia. He conveyed the same message to China.

Recently, there have been speculations that China might provide weapons and ammunition to Russia. Although China has supported Russia’s economy and propaganda efforts in the ongoing war in Ukraine, it has refrained from providing weapons. However, this could change as Chinese President Xi Jinping is rumored to visit Moscow soon.

Biden administration officials who testified before the committee vowed to impose a steep cost on the Communist regime if it provided Russia with military hardware, such as artillery and kamikaze drones. Lawmakers questioned the officials on their current efforts to counter China, including the misuse of congressionally approved funds meant to counter China’s global propaganda war.

Recently, the State Department was allocated around $325 million to counter the CCP’s malign influence worldwide. However, the funds were allegedly used to fund bakeries in Tunisia and electric vehicle charging stations in Vietnam instead. The Bureau of Industry and Security, which works to crack down on the export of technology China could use for its military, also recently approved licenses worth $60 billion to Huawei and $40 billion to SMIC, both known to supply China’s military.
