The White House is rumored to be announcing soon that all Federal Employees will be required to get a Covid vaccine to keep their employment. The American Postal Workers Union (APWU) announced that it would be pushing back against any federal-wide vaccine and mask mandates.
In a statement, the American Postal Workers Union said that after “various media outlets have reported that the White House is considering mandatory COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment for federal employees,” it would negotiate with the federal government before supporting any mandates.
The APWU wrote, “Maintaining the health and safety of our members is of paramount importance.” However, that doesn’t include forcing their members to get a vaccine and disregarding any concerns or legitimate reasons for not taking the experimental drug.
“While the APWU leadership continues to encourage postal workers to voluntarily get vaccinated, it is not the role of the federal government to mandate vaccinations for the employees we represent,” the statement read.
The statement about being pro-vaccine but not pro-MANDATORY vaccine checks out when reading the March 1 newsletter sent out by the American Postal Workers Union. The APWU bragged about President Dimondstein’s strong advocacy “for postal workers to be recognized as frontline workers in the national vaccine roll-out.”
“We are optimistic that your (referring to Joe Biden) new administration will work to bring order to the COVID chaos, including bringing a national plan to the vaccine roll-out,” President Dimondstein said. “We strongly urge that as part of this plan, the CDC recommendations in relation to postal workers are consistently and fully implemented throughout the country.”
“The well-being of postal workers and postal customers depend on it,” said Dimondstein.
The American Postal Workers Union announced that the White House must negotiate any “issues related to vaccinations and testing for COVID-19 in the workplace” directly with the APWU before they will pass that guidance down to its members.
The postal workers union stated definitively, “At this time, the APWU opposes the mandating of Covid-19 vaccinations in relation to U.S. postal workers.”
Federal employees hesitant to get the vaccine are hoping for push back like the statement by the APWU to hold the mandates at bay. As of now, it looks as if all federal employees will have to choose between medical choice and keeping their job.
