Antifa Members Allegedly Assault Attendees at GOP Event

On Saturday, a group of Antifa members showed up at a GOP campaign event in downtown Portland, Oregon. The campaign event was for Gubernatorial candidate, Stan Pulliam. One of Pulliam’s platforms includes refunding the police.

The black-clad protestors showed up to the event and threw smoke grenades, paint-filled balloons, and fireworks. Two people were injured by mortars.

When members called the police, they were put on hold for 20 minutes. The officers did not show up until the protestors had dispersed. The officers who came at the end simply took statements.

Puillam stated:

“This is what happens when a Republican dares to hold an event in Portland to talk about funding our police. Antifa shows up.”

The Portland Police Bureau stated, “That while a sergeant began monitoring the situation and gathering available resources, there were only a few officers available in the precinct.”

Puillam noted that Portland had 30 officers per 100,000 residents in the 1970s, but only 8 per 100,000 residents today. It’s not uncommon for Portland residents to be placed on long holds when calling 911.

Portland Sergent Kevin Allen said, “We’re pretty good, generally, at deploying resources to the area of the highest need. It’s been a while since I could say that I feel like we have enough cops to do everything that we want to do to keep the public safe.”
