The modern rule of tyranny in Australia began to unravel after officials announced that the country would impose COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns starting Friday night.
The state’s 6.6 million residents were instructed to stay at home except for grocery shopping, necessary work, exercise, healthcare, and vaccinations. Melbourne, Australia’s second-largest city, is under lockdown for the fifth time since the pandemic began a year and a half ago.
“You only get one chance to go hard and go fast,” stated Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews. “If you wait, if you hesitate, if you doubt, then you will always be looking back wishing you had done more earlier. I am not prepared to avoid a five-day lockdown now only to find ourselves in a five-week or a five-month lockdown.”
New South Wales, Australia’s most populated state, reports 112 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, almost all of which are linked to Sydney. The number of newly infected people in the community dropped from 45 to 34.
Although Australia has been one of the countries least affected by Covid-19, the spread of the Delta variant and the Australian government’s failure to control the virus have increased concern that the country is far less prepared to combat the virus than others.
The government has even expressed its fear by recently running a new commercial that shows a young woman in a hospital desperately trying to breathe as a warning to get vaccinated.
Completely offensive to run an ad like this when Australians in this age group are still waiting for their bloody vaccinations. https://t.co/4xF5hZAkqp

“It is completely offensive to run an ad like this when Australians in this age group are still waiting for their bloody vaccinations,” 10 News First’s National Affairs Editor Hugh Riminton said. At the same time, Guardian Australia’s Associate News Editor Josephine Tovey called the ad an “insult.”
This government cannot even tell us when exactly the general vaccination program will be open to people under 40.
What can scare tactics achieve except distress (and fury) here?

Protests against the Australian government’s decision have begun to spark across the country, given Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s failure to rebuild the country’s economy like before Covid-19 and inflicting damage on numerous individuals stemming from previous lockdowns. Economic experts in the country are concerned that the current state of chaos will worsen and take years to rebuild.

Unfortunately, the American public has very few options other than to pray for the people of Australia and keep a close eye on how quickly a government can control and force a population to do their will.
