Award Winning Police Brutality Opera Opening in Seattle

Of all the types of bad-mouthing of police by the various anti-cop factions, performing an opera wouldn’t likely make anyone’s list. But that’s what playwright Tazewell Thompson created in 2019, which the CCP virus cut short.

Blue is an opera Thompson wrote to feature “police violence.” In 2020, the Washingtonian came right out and called it a “Police Brutality Opera,” which is intended as praise.

The anti-police, radical left has gotten an awful lot of mileage out of this murderous cop myth. According to The Seattle Times, the opera features a family dealing with a “police killing.” Worse, the incendiary storyline is about a white cop who shoots and kills a black cop’s son. The Music Critics Association awarded it, Best New Opera.

Any parents having to deal with such a loss is truly tragic. But to create a production that endorses the myth police are the primary reason young black men are being murdered is reckless.

Thompson said he spoke with black cops who told him, even neighbors and fellow cops (presumably, white cops) “viewed them [black cops] with suspicion.” He said one officer told him his son closes himself in his bedroom when “he sees his father in uniform.”

The Times writer added, “the young man saw reminders of his father’s job as symbols of oppression.” If that’s true, that’s incredibly ugly. It doesn’t ring true. But if it is, it’s not a common story among cops—of any race or ethnicity.

The leftist production debuted in 2019 but was waylaid by the CCP virus lockdowns. Thompson described it as, “our baby was kidnapped and locked in a closet.” The chosen location to reopen the original production to the American public is, no surprise, lefty-elite Seattle. The oppressed creator’s opera will open at prestigious McCaw Hall, on February 22, 2022. Tickets are $56.

Thompson sees his anti-police opera as not only a “tragedy” but also as “the joy and love and the nurturing of a community.” Regardless of how good a playwright he may be, it’s also a tragedy he’s chosen to create at the expense of America’s dedicated law enforcement officers.
