The Biden administration has recently begun to implement its plan for door-to-door immunizations in low-income communities in the hopes of achieving complete herd immunity using the newly released mRNA vaccines. On Monday, Mecklenburg County in Charlotte, North Carolina, launched a new initiative called “Doses to Doors” to encourage people who have not yet received the vaccine to do so.

According to WCNC Charlotte, volunteers with Action North Carolina have been going to homes since May to provide information about COVID-19 vaccine safety, but this is the first time county health officials have been there to administer vaccines on the spot.
Volunteers had only been attempting to “dispel false information” until Monday.
“We get people that will say yes, I’ll get the shot, but the follow-up has always been the issue. Will they go? How can we get people to go out and go,” Robert Dawkins, a volunteer for Action NC, said.
According to the recent US Census, the vaccine push is also aimed at minority communities, making up 43.3% of the county’s population. In Mecklenburg County, 49% of the population is partially vaccinated, while 46% is fully vaccinated.
“The majority of the crew is African American or LatinX [SIC] because it’s difficult for people to find commonality on subjects if they don’t see themselves in it,” one volunteer said as he approached the front doors.
Volunteers also appear to approach the process stealthily, asking people if they would consider getting a shot and then informing them that a health worker with a vaccine is just around the corner if they say “yes.”
“That eliminates any excuse. You don’t have to drive anywhere and sit in line, you don’t have to have a vehicle, you don’t have to have an Uber. They are right here,” former city councilwoman LaWana Mayfield.
Last week, Biden announced that he would dispatch door-to-door COVID vaccine “strike forces” to people skeptical of the shot or who have not yet received it. The announcement immediately sparked outrage on the Internet, with many people taking to social media to mock the administration’s desperate plan.
