Black Lives Matter Tells People to Only Support Black Owned Businesses This Holiday Season

Black Lives Matter is telling shoppers to only shop at black-owned businesses this holiday season.

Blackxmas.org states:

“We’re dreaming of a #Blackxmas. That means no spending with white companies from 11/26/2021 – 01/01/2022.”

Black Lives Matter has been encouraging people to only shop at black-owned businesses since 2014. The push for “Black Xmas” came after police murdered Johnn Crawford in a Walmart in Beavercreek, Ohio. In 2020, #blackxmas became a nationwide campaign with its website, blackxmas.org. The website lists resources, including a list of organizations to support and shop.

One prominent BLM activist is a professor of Pan-African Studies at Cal State Los Angeles, Melina Abdullah. She wrote an article titled “#BlackXmas: Visioning Beyond the Weight of the Moment.” She complained about the Rittenhouse verdict and noticed white support waning for the Black Lives Matter movement.

One of “Black Xmas” goals is, “To intentionally use our economic resources to disrupt white-supremacist-capitalism and build Black community.”

BLMLA organizer Jan Williams reminds black Americans, “Capitalism doesn’t love Black people.”

The Black Lives Matter post continues:

“In fact, white-supremacist-capitalism invented policing, initially as chattel-slavery-era ‘paddy rollers,’ in order to protect its interests and put targets on the backs of Black people.”

Black Xmas lists three ways for supporters to support their cause actively.

The first is to #buildblack by investing in black-led organizations. This includes donating money in the names of loved ones as holiday gifts.

The second option is to #buyblack. This means to only purchase items from Black-owned businesses from Black Friday through the New Year.

The third recommendation is to #bankblack. This includes moving money from white-corporate banks to black-owned banks. BLM claims that white banks finance prisons, gentrification, and environmental degradation.

BLM also suggests that social media users change their profile pictures to their Black Xmas graphic.

BLM continues that its primary goal is to dismantle existing structures by building new ones that are more viable and beneficial. The organization announced:

“In the names of our mightiest and most righteous warrior Ancestors, in the names of all those stolen by police violence, in honor of our community, and as a commitment to the generations to come.”

During the Thanksgiving holiday, Black Lives Matter reminded people that they enjoyed their fests on “stolen land.” They even tweeted out an infographic where people could type in to find out what ancestral land they were currently occupying. BLM declared, “Colonization never ended; it just became normalized.”

  1. Wow, a shame they are so racist. What would they do if everyone else boycotted black businesses because they are fearful they will be treated badly? So sad and divisive and spreading racism and fear.
