BLM Activist Identified as Suspect in Louisville Mayoral Candidate Assassination Attempt

The suspect who opened fire on democratic Louisville mayoral candidate, Craig Greenberg, has been identified as 21-year-old Black Lives Matter activist and black nationalist Quintez Brown.

Brown, also a candidate for Louisville’s metro council, stormed into Greenberg’s campaign office Monday morning. After being greeted by Greenberg and four colleagues, he began shooting.

Greenberg explained:

“When we greeted him, he pulled out a gun, aimed directly at me and began shooting. Despite one bullet coming so close that it grazed my sweater and my shirt, no one was physically harmed.”

One person shut the door, which the group then barricaded, providing a barrier between them and the shooter.

Brown fled the scene but was apprehended by police about a half-mile away. He was found in possession of a handgun and several magazines.

He has been charged with attempted murder and four counts of wanton endangerment. Brown’s motive is unknown.

Police Chief Erica Shields postulated the possibility that it could be racially motivated, as Greenberg is Jewish.

She said

“Mr. Greenberg is Jewish, so there’s that. We don’t know if it’s tied to the candidate – if it’s political or if it’s just, are we dealing with someone who has mental issues or is venomous. I don’t know.”

Last summer, Brown went missing for nearly two weeks. When he was found, his family asked for privacy to address his mental, physical and spiritual health issues and provided no further details.

According to Click2Houston, Brown is a former intern and editorial columnist for The Courier Journal, and “has been prolific on social media, tweeting and retweeting comments on social justice issues.” In one recent post, Brown showed the faces of several young Blacks killed by gun violence in Louisville, writing: “This is our reality. All of these kids are gone.”

The leader of the BLM Louisville division has already begun efforts to get Brown released on bail.

Since his campaign’s launch, Greenberg’s focus has been on putting an end to gun violence. He claims Monday’s events gave him and his team “more resolve” to put an end to gun violence.
