BLM Reportedly Fails to Disclose Details of Nearly $60 Million in Donations

Investigative reporter Andrew Kerr of the Washington Examiner stated that Black Lives Matter owes it to its contributors to explain how their money is being spent. Kerr discussed his inquiry into BLM during a recent Fox Business interview, which prompted questions about who is in control of the group’s finances and how it managed the almost $60 million it claimed in 2020.

Kerr said, “There were a large number of people, probably millions of people, that donated to this charity with good intentions. Just like regular folks that did not like the scenes they were seeing on television, and Black Lives Matter has a duty to those people who gave them their hard-earned money [to disclose] what they’ve done with their money. It’s been two years — the reporting was due months ago, and it’s been radio silence.”

California and Washington have ordered the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, the legal body that represents the national BLM movement, to cease fundraising efforts in their respective states until the organization delivers financial data. BLM said that it had stopped receiving online payments. However, Kerr believes the organization is still accepting money through ActBlue, a Democratic fundraising site. He explained, “BLM has had plenty of opportunities to provide their documents. All they need to do is to provide the documents they were required to disclose upon request that were due back in November. And until they do that, I think they are going to face more and more scrutiny.”

Kerr also highlighted that BLM’s standing as a public charity requires it to make information about its finances and leadership available to the public. Additionally, the Attorney General in Indiana noted that the pattern Kerr has exposed is often seen with organizations that are committing fraud.
