Climate Protestors Arrested in Chuck Schumer’s Office

On Monday, Capitol Police arrested 6 House Staffers who were upset about the current climate policy. The staffers showed up to protest in room 322 in the Senate office building. Police stated, “Six demonstrators were arrested for DC Code §22-3302 Unlawful Entry for failing to leave the office after they were told to leave.”

The staffers claimed they were conducting their peaceful protest inside the offices to urge leaders to negotiate for more drastic climate policies due to the “current climate catastrophe.” The staffers claimed they were “putting their bodies” on the line for climate justice.

When a staffer was asked why the protest was happening at Schumer’s office and not at Senator Manchin’s office, the staffer replied, “Because there’s always going to be a sheep that strays away from the herd…It is the job of leadership to get the party together.”

It’s not clear how Schumer felt about the protest in his office, but he has come out with support for peaceful protesting, referring to those protests outside of the Supreme Court justice’s homes.
