Students at Whitney High School in Rocklin, CA, were given a controversial history quiz question on November 4. Students and parents felt the question targeted students with conservative beliefs. One student took a screenshot of the question.
The quiz question asked students to identify “A group of complete idiots.” The answer options were:
- a “KKK”
- b “all of Florida”
- c “Fox News”
- d “Texans’
The screenshot has since gone viral after a family friend posted the photo. Jessica Krissovich, a friend of the student, said, “I do believe that the intent of the questions on the test was to ridicule students who had conservative beliefs and make them feel bad for feeling that way.”
She noted that teachers could see how upset students and parents are after seeing the post on social media. She added, “Hopefully, they [teachers] will leave their politics at home.”
Others felt the question intentionally meant to drive division and create animosity toward Conservative students. The student’s family who took the screenshot declined to give interviews for fear their child could be targeted further.
The Principal of the school, Justin Cutts, issued a statement condemning the quiz question. He said, “Whitney High and Rocklin United is committed to providing each student, family, and staff with a safe and welcoming environment.”
He sent a letter to parents on November 5, writing that disciplinary action will be taken. He also promised that the school administration is conducting a thorough investigation into the matter following outrage from the WHS community’s parents.
Several parents reported that the one-sided political comments from this particular social science teacher had been an ongoing problem.
Fox40 reports, “The educator has made statements, which are mostly directed against the Republican Party. The question on the test is really blatant, obviously, and that’s out there. This has been the first time it has been looked at of him crossing the line.”
One parent questioned whether there would be more outrage if the question targeted left-wing students.
Karen Julio wrote:
“I wonder if the outrage would be much higher, went viral, and the teacher fired, if the answer options were; a) far-left activists, b) liberals, c) BLM, d) President Biden and his handlers.”
Another parent noted, “We all have different beliefs. This is the United States, and we all come from different backgrounds, and everybody should be okay with who they are.”
