A Children’s Protective Services (CPS) employee in Houston may be heeding her own advice after telling a 14-year-old girl to solve her money problems by becoming a prostitute.
Keisha Bazley, a mother of 9, reached out to Harris County CPS for help because her daughter was running away and causing trouble at school. She never imagined her daughter would be encouraged to do even worse.
“My daughter told me that the worker had been telling her she should do these things, so she said she decided to video her.”
Sure enough, the video shows the worker suggesting the teen prostitute herself to get a meal.
The girl is currently being housed in a hotel under CPS care, as are dozens of other children in Harris County.
Bazley filed a formal complaint with CPS who didn’t take the situation lightly.
The worker was fired and CPS Commissioner, Jamie Masters, made a trip from Austin to personally apologize to Bazley.
The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services also issued a statement that reads:
“DFPS is aware of the video and has taken action. The person in the video – who was employed as CPS support staff – was dismissed from her position August 10. The safety and appropriateness with which children in care must be treated is our paramount concern. Nothing less will be tolerated.”
