Detroit Teacher Arrested for Making False Threats Against Middle School

A Detroit area middle school teacher has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into multiple inappropriate handwritten notes she allegedly placed around the school. One note was a threat against the school.

She was arrested on December 17 shortly after noon when three separate notes were found in teacher work areas around 7:30 am.

In a public statement, Superintendent Karl Paulson wrote in part:

“One of the notes appeared to be an attempt at making a false threat in the hope of closing school. Based on the facts, information and timeline, the team was confident everyone was safe, and there was no need for initiating any lockdown or other safety protocols.”

The school is taking this issue very seriously, as they do any “potential disruption.” Paulson said they are fully cooperating with the police in their investigation. He expressed his incredible disappointment for the teacher’s behavior and reassured families that students are safe.

He also stated that a “full and proper” review of the footage and due process was followed “prior to concluding the issue with the staff member.”

Paulson closed out his memo:

”Finally, I want to assure families we will continue to investigate any information provided to us that may be of concern. Our schools stay safe when we work together. Remember, see something – say something.”

The suspect was pinpointed after reviewing the school’s security camera footage. She was seen slipping notes under staff members’ office doors.

The staff’s name has not yet been released. The knowledge that it’s a “she” and a “teacher” comes from verbiage used by Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido.

He claims there is enough information to charge her with multiple crimes but questions her motive. The assumption is that she was attempting to shut the school down again.

He said, “Of course, she’s innocent until proven guilty, and all of this will come out in court. But this doesn’t help with everything that’s been going on recently. If you’ve got teachers making threats, how safe do you think the parents are going to think that school is?”

Lucido is submitting a warrant seeking criminal charges against the teacher and expects an arraignment today. The teacher is currently in the Macon County Jail, awaiting proceedings.

Lucido quipped, “You’re supposed to be there for our children during a difficult time, and you’re creating more problems.”
