Disgraced R&B Singer R. Kelly Sentenced to 30 years for Sex Trafficking

Just one day after Ghislaine Maxwell was handed her sentence, former R&B singer Robert Sylvester Kelly received his.

Better known as R. Kelly, he was sentenced to 30 years along with a $100,000 fine for his decades-long sexual abuse of young fans, some of whom were minors.

Last year, the multiplatinum-selling, Grammy-winning musician was convicted guilty of nine charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. The disgraced singer has pleaded innocent throughout the entire ordeal, despite condemning evidence and being convicted in court.

The US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York Brown Peace said in an official statement:

“Through his actions, Kelly exhibited a callous disregard for the devastation his crimes had on his victims and has shown no remorse for his conduct.  With today’s sentence he has finally and appropriately been held accountable for his decades of abuse, exploitation and degradation of teenagers and other vulnerable young people.  We hope that today’s sentence brings some measure of comfort and closure to the victims, including those who bravely testified at trial, and serves as long-overdue recognition that their voices deserve to be heard and their lives matter.”

Like Maxwell, Kelly showed no remorse and plans to appeal the decision.

Kelly’s legal troubles are far from over as he is yet to face federal accusations in Illinois for obstruction and pornography and charges in Minnesota for prostitution with a juvenile.
