Axios obtained data from the Department of Homeland Security indicating that 50,000 illegal immigrants have entered the country and been released into nearby cities without a court date.
The number of migrant apprehensions at the US-Mexico border increased to its highest yearly level in 2019 [fiscal], during the Trump administration. Instead of being apprehended and sent back to their homeland, they are released into a nearby city and asked to report to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement office. This number of illegal migrants is a significant increase over previous years, almost as bad as the 2014 border crisis, which saw more than 60,000 unaccompanied minors at the southern border.
Data so far has shown that only 13% of the illegal immigrants pouring into the country have shown up to the arranged office sitdown. From March to July, that amounted to nearly 6,700 illegal migrants out of a total of 50,000. According to the ICE website, non-U.S. citizens who are “apprehended and determined to need custodial supervision are placed in detention facilities. However, for whatever strange reason, some illegal immigrants are released from ICE facilities” and given the freedom to travel throughout the country as a “nondetained docket.”
ICE claims that after immigrants are recorded into the system, the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) “processes and monitors” them until they have gone through the necessary processes. However, multiple eye-witness reports show otherwise.
Arlington Valdez and his 5-year-old daughter were apprehended and detained at the United States’ southern border in March. They were sent into the country with only an envelope. The envelope contained one document certifying they tested negative for COVID-19 and another containing his fingerprint and his destination as Florida. Aside from the envelope, he was unsure of his court date, who he needed to contact, and when he needed to contact them. Now according to new evidence, Valdez and his daughter are not the only ones.
President Biden and his administration’s soft approach to dealing with the thousands of miles of unprotected border is the only explanation for this sweltering crisis at the border. This administration appears to be more concerned with their public image and re-election than with securing the southern border. The Biden administration also seems to be intent on reversing every action taken.
In a memo sent out by the White House on Tuesday, the Biden administration expressed precisely that, saying, “The President’s Budget redirect resources from a needless border wall to make robust investments and smarter border security measures, like more border technology modernization land ports of entry, that are proven to be more effective at improving safety and security at the border.”
Biden and Harris have been adamant about avoiding the southern border until the crisis has passed. Still, the current situation shows that the problem will persist until critical action is taken.
According to Princeton Policy Advisors’ Steven Kopits, Biden’s “deliberate policy of keeping the border open” will invite nearly 1.7 million illegal aliens to cross the border this calendar year, making it the worst influx in American history.
“Our forecast for the balance of CY 2021 assumes a decrease in apprehensions following the precedent of 2000. In such an event, apprehensions at the US southwest border would total 1,581,000 for FY 2021 and 1,690,000 for [the] calendar year 2021. The fiscal year figure would be the third worst in the historical record, and for the calendar year, the absolute worst in the historical record by nearly 100,000.”
President Joe Biden announced in January, just a few days after being elected, that he would withdraw funding for President Trump’s historic border wall. Seven months after that irrational decision, states near the southern border have experienced the largest increase in illegal immigration in US history, and the Biden administration is now welcoming them with open arms.
