New York’s appointed Governor Kathy Hochul recently exhibited the Democrat phenomenon of punishing millions of legal gun owners for the actions of criminals.
Despite that states and cities with the strongest gun control laws often being the most violent and crime-ridden, Politico reported Gov. Hochul signed a “stronger gun-control measure into law.”
The law primarily raises the age to buy semi-automatic rifles from 18 to 21 and strengthens social media’s reporting requirements “when they are alerted to credible threats of violence.”
While strengthening social media’s responsibility to report credible threats of violence is prudent. Threats of violence are legitimate crimes against a real victim. Eighteen-year-olds buying rifles and shotguns is not a crime against anyone. At least, not until Democrat gun-grabbers make it so.
New York also plans to expand its “red flag” laws, which critics fear are open to abuse by anti-gun politicians who may exploit the law to confiscate firearms.
The Democrat governor and legislature conscripted the heinous crimes in Buffalo and Uvalde to prey on people’s emotions to enact more gun control.
Throughout the CCP virus pandemic, Democrats have betrayed their base desire to “fundamentally transform the United States” which includes disarming law-abiding Americans.
The Democrats have an enormous problem, though. Many people who consider themselves Democrats or left-of-center now own firearms.
Ironically, the Democrat-endorsed violence and destruction of the BLM/Antifa riots and subsequent “defunding” of the police, has persuaded many left-leaners to buy guns for self-defense.
According to ABC 7 News, Hochul apparently believes it is “moral” to restrict Americans’ right to self-defense. Democrat leaders continue to enact gun laws affecting the law-abiding while not enforcing existing gun laws—against criminals. But they need the “gun issue” for fundraising and campaigning.
Another phenomenon is when many “gun averse” people actually shoot guns at a range, they keep their respect but lose their fear of and prejudice against firearms.
They realize they are no more likely to use their guns to shoot innocent people than, as a legal car owner, they are to swerve their cars into innocent people.
They understand the obvious truth: it’s not the weapon; it’s the person.
