Governor Abbott Will Bus Texas Border Crossers To Washington D.C.

On Wednesday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced his plans to combat the surge of illegal immigrants into Texas. One of his plans involves expanding Operation Lone Star, which is a state government effort to lessen illegal immigration from Mexico.

Abbot’s move comes as the Biden Administration plans to end Title 42 in May. Title 42, a Trump-era policy, allows the U.S. to stop migrants from entering the country based on Covid-19. It’s no surprise that the ending of the policy will cause a large influx of illegal immigrants.

Governor Abbott stated:

“To help local officials whose communities are being overwhelmed with hordes of illegal immigrants who are being dropped off by the Biden administration, Texas is providing charter buses to send these illegal immigrants who have been dropped off by the Biden administration to Washington, D.C.

“We are sending them to the United States capital where the Biden administration will be able to more immediately address the needs of the people that they are allowing to come across our border.”

Another new policy will be “enhanced public safety inspection of vehicles” arriving in the U.S. from Mexico. This policy is intended to slow down traffic at the border, hopefully deterring migrants away.

Other measures include installing razor wire fences at low water crossings and making container blockades to deter people from low water crossings. Additional measures to combat the migrant influx will be announced next week.
