Haitian Migrants Assault ICE Agents and Pilots in Effort to Avoid Deportation

Illegal immigrants from Haiti that were being deported from the United States allegedly bit and assaulted Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on flights in an attempt to prevent their return to the Caribbean country. Pilots were also attacked as the United States conducted deportation flights to Haiti after nearly 15,000 migrants, mainly from Haiti, settled under a bridge in Del Rio, Texas, after illegally crossing the border.

According to the Washington Examiner, two Haitians got out of their seats and bit ICE agents as their plane taxied down the runway at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas. The plane was forced to return because of the disruption, and it is unclear if the Haitian suspects were arrested.

According to officials, another deportation flight was canceled when migrants were “disruptive” and began “fighting staff” on board. NBC reported a separate incident in which Haitians attacked the pilots and wounded three ICE agents after a flight carrying solely male migrants landed in Port-au-Prince. The chaos erupted when US officials released the migrants to Haitian authorities on the tarmac. The migrants reportedly attacked another arriving airplane carrying families and assaulted the pilots, leaving three ICE officers with non-life-threatening injuries.

A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson stated, “On Tuesday, Sept. 21, some adult migrants caused two separate disruptions on the tarmac after deplaning in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Haitian crowd control officers responded to both incidents and resolved the situations. ICE fully respects the rights of all people to peacefully express their opinions while continuing to perform its immigration enforcement mission consistent with our priorities, federal law, and agency policy.”

In another recent incident, a group of Haitian migrants being bused to a deportation flight temporarily gained control of the vehicle before attempting to flee.

As the border crisis continues, mainstream media has once again demonized border patrol, likening images of Border Patrol officers using their horses to control crowds on the Rio Grande river to slavery and white supremacy. The Biden administration called the photos “horrific” and has temporarily suspended horseback patrol. The administration also reportedly placed several agents on administrative leave pending an investigation. However, Border Patrol Agent and Union Vice President Jon Anfinsen said, “These agents are highly trained along with their horses, and they were doing exactly what they were trained to do.”

In recent days, according to the Department of Homeland Security, 1,401 migrants have been deported to Haiti. According to DHS, more than 4,600 migrants who had gathered under the Del Rio bridge had been evacuated from the temporary encampment, but they did not reveal how many were released into the country’s interior.
