In a move of defiance against the rumored overturning of Roe v. Wade, New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a $35 million allocation of state funds to abortion providers.
The Washington Examiner reports the state’s Department of Health will designate $25 million to abortion providers and the remaining $10 million will be available in the form of “security grants.”
This development comes after Hochul has claimed she is “horrified” at the alleged Supreme Court Opinion, and encouraged women seeking abortions to come to her state. Her statement, in part, reads:
New York will always be a place where abortion rights are protected and where abortion is safe and accessible.
Further attempts from New York officials to combat the preservation of life in the womb were announced Monday, when the Reproductive Freedom and Equity Program was introduced by Attorney General Letitia James.
The program will “provide funding to abortion providers and nonprofit organizations, help patients pay for uncompensated abortions, and give grants to nonprofit organizations that facilitate patients’ travel to New York to receive abortions in the state.”
Most ironically, the governor’s official statement made reference to the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor, claiming that New York will never cease to fight for abortions, yet ignoring the very definition of liberty, altogether.
