An Instacart shopper in Minnesota trashed her customer’s groceries after seeing a Blue Lives Matter flag in the driveway.
On December 6, an elderly couple placed a grocery order from their local Club Foods. They chose to have their groceries delivered via the store’s Instacart delivery service. The Instacart driver is 36-year-old Tara Olivia Plum.
The couple went outside to meet Plum because they were worried she would get stuck in their snowbound driveway. The couple was met with anger and hostility from Plum. She yelled at the couple to check their wreath on the front door.
On the receipt, Plum wrote:
“instacart doesn’t pay employees. Sry [sorry] find another slave,” the driver allegedly wrote on the receipt, which also included the words “police pigs.”
The residents also discovered that Plum had run over their $50 worth of groceries. All the groceries were ruined.
The Police Chief, Brian Podany, said that Plum was reacting to the couple’s sign that read “Thank You Blaine P.D.” The letter O was replaced by a heart filled with the Thin Blue Line flag.
Podany noted the incident remains under investigation, but the crime does not fit the profile to be considered a hate crime. The police spokesperson said, “We would have to prove the act was committed based on the victim’s perceived race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, disability, age or national origin.”
Plum was cited with criminal property damage.
Instacart issued its statement on the incident:
“We’re appalled by the unacceptable actions of this shopper, who has been removed from the Instacart platform as a result. We’ve been in direct contact with the customers to refund their order and provide additional resources.
We’ll continue to provide support to the impacted customers and will also work directly with local law enforcement on any investigations into this matter.”
Instacart issued the couple a full refund.
The couple’s relative, Amy Gray, started a GoFundMe for them. She noted, “Supporting law enforcement doesn’t make you racist. And it absolutely doesn’t give anyone the right to destroy your things or shatter your sense of safety.”
The GoFundMe had a goal of $500 and has already surpassed $12,000.

I’m sorry that happened to them and that trash person should be forced to make restitution but why does the couple need a gfm to raise money?
I too am curious about the gfm. I couldn’t find it, so I wonder if that’s really true.
