Is This Yet Another Memphis Murderer Who Should Have Been in Prison?

On Wednesday, a 19-year-old psychopath allegedly went on an hours-long killing spree murdering four people, and, as The Daily Wire reported, “terrorizing the city.” The suspect live-streamed himself on social media, driving throughout Memphis, Tennessee shooting people. In one instance on video, he opens the door to an Auto Zone store, points the gun at a man, and fires, wounding a man. He also allegedly killed a woman during a carjacking.

But this is not just a story about a heinous crime committed by a monstrous criminal. This is apparently another story of a killer who shouldn’t have been out of prison to kill any innocent person. According to TDW, “Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland said he should never have been on the loose.”

Strickland said, “If [the suspect] served his full three-year sentence, he would still be in prison today and four of our fellow citizens would still be alive.”

The suspect reportedly served only 11 months of the three years he was supposed to do.

This is an all too familiar story, repeated only days after the murder of Memphis teacher Eliza Fletcher, allegedly killed by another man who should not have been out of prison.

People who wonder why Memphis is such a dangerous city can blame an apparently lax criminal justice system that refuses to protect the city and state’s residents by keeping violent criminals in jail or prison for their entire sentences.
