Yesterday, a jury of six men and six women found Jussie Smollett guilty of staging a hate crime on himself in early 2019. After two days of deliberations, Smollett was found guilty of five out of six counts of felony disorderly conduct.
The jury declared that Smollett made false reports in the days immediately following the incident yet was acquitted on one count of lying to an investigator weeks after the incident.
Each count is a class 4 felony and carries a three-year prison sentence and a $25,000 fine. It is up to Judge James Linn if Smollett will serve them concurrently (all at once) or consecutively (one at a time). A post-trial hearing is scheduled for January 27, but Linn has yet to set a date for sentencing.
Experts have chimed in that Smollett will likely not serve any prison time due to his clean record. Probation and community service will likely be given as alternatives.
Special prosecutor Dan Webb was thoroughly pleased with the outcome as he bashed Smollet for lying under oath.
He said, “Not only did Mr. Smollett lie to the police and wreak havoc here in this city for weeks on end for no reason whatsoever, but then he compounded the problem by lying under oath to a jury. That verdict is a resounding message by the jury that, in fact, Mr. Smollett did exactly what we said he did.”
Smollett was found guilty of orchestrating a hate crime against himself. He claimed that on January 25, 2019, two Trump-loving men attacked him outside of his apartment, yelled racial slurs at him while they put a noose around his neck, and poured bleach on him.

Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo testified that Smollett provided them with $3,500 to put on the hoax. They were also given a script full of homophobic and racist slurs and shown exactly where it was to occur so that surveillance cameras would record everything.
Smollett is still not conceding and tasked his attorney Nenye Uche to appeal. Uche said, “He (Smollett) is 100% confident that this will be reversed on appeal.”
Just as he ignored this verdict, Smollett has ignored a lawsuit from April 2019 from the Chicago Police Department. Chicago PD filed a lawsuit to force Smollett to reimburse them for the $130,106.15 in resources they provided in response to his hoax.
