LinkedIn “Mistake” Boots Air Force Vet, Conservative Activist From Platform

As a University of Chicago freshman alluded to recently, why do leftist tech, media, and social media “mistakes,” censoring and canceling speech, always go in one direction—against the right?

U.S. Air Force veteran and Code of Vets founder Gretchen Smith may have thought about this phenomenon after LinkedIn canceled her for “hate speech” where none was anywhere in sight.

FOX News reported, “LinkedIn reinstated an Air Force veteran’s post and apologized after wrongfully accusing her of violating the platform’s hate speech policy.”

What provoked LinkedIn’s “mistake?” In a story Smith posted, she talked about earning four college degrees and “rising from poverty… after serving in the Air Force.”

Apparently responding to leftists’ calls for eliminating student debt (which taxpayers would pay), Smith posted, “I am not responsible for your student debt. I grew up in poverty in NC. Ate from a garden, name was on community Angel tree for Christmas, bought clothes from yard sales & if I was lucky, on a rare occasion Sky City. I joined the Air Force then went to college. I made it happen.”

LinkedIn told Smith her comments went “against our policy on hate speech.”

Smith tweeted, “I was locked out of @LinkedIn just now for this exact post below. It went viral. This is the second time this platform has targeted me. I am frustrated and disappointed. Freedom of Speech has been secured by our blood, sweat and lives. This has got to stop.”

Her “hate speech” (conservative opinion), with which millions of Americans agree, prompted LinkedIn to remove her post “and restrict her account.” Smith shared a screenshot showing LinkedIn’s punitive actions.

Smith appealed, and LinkedIn recanted, saying, “We confirmed your content does not violate our policies. We apologize for the mistake, your content is now back on LinkedIn.”

LinkedIn’s reasoning appears a bit muddled, having to do with Smith switching “the page to a group account…” from a personal account before they would lift the restriction. Why would the type of account make a difference, if it’s “hate speech?”

Conservatives are frustrated with the apparent targeting by leftist social media platforms. “Mistakes” or intentional, it’s gotten old.
