Man Burned with Unknown Liquid in Random NYC Attack

The York City Police Department has released footage of a random attack in the city’s Midtown neighborhood. The attack took place on July 5th around 10 pm on the corner of 47th St. and 6th Ave. In the video, the 57-year-old victim is seen walking down the sidewalk when he is ambushed from behind and doused with an unknown liquid before falling to the ground. The suspect was shirtless wearing black shorts and fled immediately after pouring the liquid on the victim.

The NYPD said, “there were no words exchanged prior to the attack.” The victim is an owner of a neighborhood jewelry shop and reportedly went to Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center the day after the attack. He was treated for second-degree burns. Police are offering up to $3,500 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect they describe as about 5-foot-7 and 130 pounds.

According to the NYPD, there were 2055 felony assaults in June of 2021 compared to 2039 in June of 2020, and  CBS New York reports that assaults are up 27% in Midtown North from last year, but “overall crime in the area is down.”
