Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s strategy to get Washington D.C. to pay attention to the negative effects of illegal immigration is starting to work. On a recent episode of CBS’s “Face the Nation,” D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser discussed the city’s homelessness issue and the fact that it is a sanctuary city.

According to Townhall, Bowser acknowledged that it has grown to be a “significant issue” when she was questioned about how illegal aliens are contributing to the issue. She stated, “We have for sure called on the federal government to work across state lines to prevent people from really being tricked into getting on buses. We think they’re largely asylum seekers who are going to final destinations that are not Washington, D.C.”

She continued, “I worked with the White House to make sure that FEMA provided a grant to a local organization that is providing services to folks. I fear that they’re being tricked into nationwide bus trips when their final destinations are places all over the United States of America.”

Gov. Abbott has reportedly sent over 125 buses to D.C., transporting approximately 4,800 illegal immigrants from Texas to the nation’s capital. In May, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey also started sending migrants to D.C., so far transporting a total of 27 buses carrying more than 1,000 illegal immigrants to Washington.
