According to a recent TIPP poll taken in cooperation with Issues & Insights, Joe Biden’s attempts to deflect blame for inflation to Vladimir Putin and greedy companies have not convinced many people. The “Putin price hike” narrative isn’t even resonating with Democrats, who blame Biden in large part for rising inflation.
Of those polled, 64% felt Biden was “responsible,” with 38% saying he was “very responsible” and 26% saying he was “somewhat responsible.” Only 25% said he was “not responsible,” with 17% saying “not very responsible” and only 8% saying they were “not at all responsible.” “I’m not sure” accounted for 10% of the total. Democrats have largely given up on Biden’s economic leadership, with 53% blaming Biden’s policies for inflation and 39% believing they aren’t to blame.
The poll found that just one significant demographic subgroup, self-described “liberals,” was below 50% overall. All other demographics, including blacks (61%), Hispanics (61%), males (68%), women (61%), and people of all income levels, ages, and education levels, agree that Biden’s policies were to blame for inflation.
The Biden administration has spent the past fourteen months denying the existence of inflation, at times even denying it occurred at all. They also blamed corporate greed for inflation, which has outlasted the “Putin’s price hike” propaganda. However, most voters do not believe it because nearly everyone is aware of the factors that led to increased inflation, with a majority of Democrats blaming “excessive” government spending for rising prices.
