New Polling Shows More than 8 in 10 Americans are Against Biden’s Economic Policies

According to a recent ABC News/Ipsos survey, most Americans believe the economy, inflation, and rising gas costs are the most important factors in determining how they will vote for Congress this November. As inflation continues to rise, the growing cost of goods and services has had a substantial impact on Americans. The latest ABC News/Ipsos survey conducted using Ipsos’ KnowledgePanel showed that more than eight in ten Americans, or 83% now think the economy is either an extremely or very significant factor in determining how they will vote.

In the poll, 80% of Americans think inflation is a very or extremely important influence in how they vote, while 74% say gas costs are. Joe Biden’s popularity ratings for his handling of these critical problems are all significantly below 50%, indicating difficulty ahead of the midterm elections for the president and Democratic candidates. Only 37% approve of Biden’s management of the economy, and even fewer approve of his handling of inflation (28%) and gas prices (27%). Biden’s strongest approval rating (56%) is for his management of the COVID-19 outbreak, which is currently among the least significant topics to Americans.

An ABC News/Ipsos survey from April revealed that there was a 20-point discrepancy in excitement for voting this November between Republicans and Democrats, with 55% of Republicans saying they were extremely eager about voting vs just 35% of Democrats. However, in the May poll, the difference decreased slightly, but Republicans still have a considerable edge, with 57% of Republicans expressing enthusiasm for voting compared to 44% of Democrats.

On Friday, President Biden discussed the May jobs report, in which 390,000 jobs were gained in May, while unemployment stayed at 3.6%. Biden called the report “excellent” but acknowledged that many Americans remain concerned about the economy. He stated, “I know that even with today’s good news, a lot of Americans remain anxious, and I understand the feeling.”
