New York Progressive Group Demands More Funding for Illegal Immigrants

Progressive activists for illegal immigrants are urging New York State to expand its $2.1 billion subsidy program for illegal immigrants who are otherwise ineligible for government assistance. Frontpage Mag reports that the “Excluded Worker Fund,” which was established in April as part of the New York State budget, gave one-time payments of up to $15,600 to illegal immigrants who proved that they were laid off as a result of COVID-19. Illegal immigrants who could not confirm this were still eligible for $3,200 in payments, the same amount that American citizens and other legal residents received.

The New York Times described the program saying:

“by far the biggest of its kind in the country.”

However, the fund is reportedly running out of funds.

The Times reports:

“Just a few months after the state began accepting applications, the fund is about to run out of money, following a blitz in claims and a speedy distribution of aid. State authorities announced they would stop accepting new applications as of Oct. 8.”

They also said:

“To date, the state has distributed just over two-thirds of the fund, to about 128,000 people, a fraction of the nearly 351,000 claims that were received.”

According to the Economic Policy Institute, 290,000 workers were projected to benefit from the fund, but the demand for illegal immigration assistance has outpaced the available funding. The number of applicants surpassed the number of illegal immigrants expected to benefit from the program by more than 20%. As the Biden administration continues to accept hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants into the country and release many of them in New York, the issue will only get worse.

A far-left organization called Fund Excluded Workers recently asked New York Governor Kathy Hochul to add $3 billion to the fund, tweeting, “We call on @GovKathyHochul and the state legislature to add $3 billion to the Excluded Workers Fund in next year’s budget. The Governor and the State Legislature must finish the job and FULLY #FundExcludedWorkers.”

The campaign coordinator of the Fund Excluded Workers coalition, Bianca Guerrero, said:

“It’s not enough to finish the job that the last governor started; we need her to make sure that it meets the actual demand.”

Border Patrol documents obtained by Fox News revealed that “at least 160,000 illegal immigrants have been released into the U.S., often with little to no supervision, by the Biden administration since March – including a broad use of limited parole authorities to make more than 30,000 eligible for work permits since August.”

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki recently confirmed a report of the Biden administration flying underage illegal immigrants to suburban New York and Connecticut on secret late-night flights saying, “It is our legal responsibility to safely care for unaccompanied children until they swiftly — can be swiftly unified with a parent or a vetted sponsor.”

President Biden’s enormous “Building Back Better” tax and spending plan demonstrates the progressive left’s pro-illegal immigration goals.

They want to expand the current Child Tax Credit to include children of illegal immigrants, which would lead to disastrous financial consequences. An extension would consist of an estimated one million illegal immigrant children and their families across the country, and the cost of expanding the credit to illegals is expected to be more than $3 billion with a cost of $221 million in New York alone.
