New York’s BLM Co-Founder Calls Out Vaccine Mandates and de Blasio

Chivona Newsome, the co-founder of New York’s Black Lives Matter chapter, has come out against vaccine mandates. She likened Mayor Bill de Blasio’s mandates to segregation and targeting black communities. Newsome warned of an uprising similar to what was experienced during the George Floyd protests. During a protest in New York, Newsome said, “Seventy-two percent of black people in this city from ages 18 to 44 are unvaccinated. So what is going to stop the Gestapo, I mean the NYPD, from rounding up black people, from snatching them off the train, off the bus?”

Newsome led a protest outside of Carmine’s Italian Restaurant. Three black visitors from Texas claimed that they were denied entry into the restaurant for not showing vaccination cards. The women claimed the hostess used a racial slur and proceeded to beat up the hostess. The restaurant denied any racial slur being used. Newsome was leading a protest against the restaurant and the city’s vaccination requirement.

Kimberly Barnard, the Black Women’s March co-founder, feels that the vaccination mandates are being used to target blacks and other minority groups. She said, “We are serving notice on the mayor, on the governor, on the restaurant industry that we will not allow for you to use this pandemic, vaccination cards, and masks as another reason to be racist, to put us in prison — because there’s enough of us in there.”

Mayor de Blasio’s mandate went into effect in August in New York City. The order requires people to show proof of vaccination at indoor restaurants, gyms, and entertainment centers. The Washington Examiner reports, “When you hear those words, I want you to imagine the notion that, because someone’s vaccinated, they can do all the amazing things that are available in this city,” de Blasio said of the order.

According to Morning Consult, “Biden’s approval dropped a striking 12 points among black voters since September 8th, the day before the White House announced a comprehensive new COVID-19 mitigation plan…which will demand workplaces with 100 or more employees either require their workers to be vaccinated against COVID or submit to rigorous testing for the virus.” According to the latest Gallup poll, Biden’s approval ratings have been falling overall, with his approval at just 43%.
