Newsom Mandates Covid Vaccine For All California Students Grades 7-12

Just a month ago, California Gov. Gavin Newsom was fighting for his life in an effort to recall him out of the governor’s office for his response to Covid. The People of California got millions of signatures and several more millions to come out and vote.

After Newsom survived the recall, he didn’t use the criticism and change the ‘tyrannical’ way he responded to the pandemic. Instead, Newsom is reportedly mandating that students in grades 7-12 take the Covid vaccine. Gavin Newsom released a statement bragging about the unsettling national precedent mandating the Covid vaccine for all California’s eligible public and private school children.

“Upon full FDA approval of age groups within a grade span, CDPH will consider the recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Academy of Family Physicians prior to implementing a requirement,” the statement said.

As soon as the FDA approves the Covid vaccine for all ages, the mandate will include students as young as Kindergarten. Megan Reilly, LA Unified Interim Superintendent, spoke to the LA Times, saying that of the approximately 225,0000 students in grades 6 through 12, roughly 80,000 were not yet vaccinated.” This order is expected to affect millions of California students.

“The state already requires that students are vaccinated against viruses that cause measles, mumps, and rubella – there’s no reason why we wouldn’t do the same for COVID-19. Today’s measure, just like our first-in-the-nation school masking and staff vaccination requirements, is about protecting our children and school staff and keeping them in the classroom,” said Governor Newsom. “Vaccines work. It’s why California leads the country in preventing school closures and has the lowest case rates. We encourage other states to follow our lead to keep our kids safe and prevent the spread of COVID-19.”

Critics of the Covid vaccine being added to a child’s vaccine schedule claim this move negates the parents’ right to make medical decisions on behalf of their children, and the issue that not enough studies have been completed highlighting the long-term side effects of the vaccine.

“This is just another vaccine,” Newsom said. The COVID-19 vaccine will join “a well-established list that currently includes 10 vaccines and well-established rules and regulations that have been advanced by the Legislature for decades.”
