A source for ESPN confirmed this week that the NFL plans to play the black national anthem before the United States National Anthem. The report said,” ‘Lift Ev’ry Voice And Sing,’ traditionally known as the black national anthem, is expected to be performed live or played before every Week 1 NFL game.”
The NFL isn’t going to stop there. In its apparent quest to demonize law enforcement officers, the NFL “is considering a variety of other measures during the upcoming season to recognize victims of police brutality.”
The issue Americans will have will lie heavily on the NFL’s decision to play ‘Lift Ev’ry Voice And Sing’ before they played ‘The Star-Spangled Banner,’ our National Anthem that transcends race and religion.
ESPN’s source said the NFL is working to show “a genuine commitment to the public, players, and coaches and that player voices continue to be heard.” The source went on to say that the NFL’s ‘efforts’ are “key to educating fans, and becoming a prominent voice in the fight to end racism.”
Roger Goodell came out with a video last year that apologized for not listening to players intent on protesting. “It has been a difficult time for our country. In particular, black people in our country,” Goodell. “First, my condolences to the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and all the families who have endured police brutality.”
He said that the NFL was “wrong for not listening to NFL players earlier.” Goodell even “encourage[d] all players to speak out and peacefully protest.” He said, “we believe that black lives matter.”
“Without black players, there would be no National Football League,” Roger Goodell claimed. “And the protests around the country are emblematic of the centuries of silence, inequality, and oppression of black players, coaches, fans, and staff.”
Conservative NFL fans are not happy with the decision, with most of them calling for continued boycotts while the rest call for the abolition of the idea of even having a ‘black national anthem’ in the first place.

Todd Starnes tweeted, “NFL plans to perform [the] black national anthem before all major events. What about the Asian national anthem or the Latino national anthem? Or the indigenous people’s national anthem?”

Even Former NFL Wide Receiver KJ Brent took issue with the black national anthem being played at the games. He tweeted, “NFL playing the black national anthem now lol y’all can disagree, but that’s about as performative and unnecessary as it gets right now.”
