NYC Mayor Tests Positive for Covid-19

On Sunday, Mayor Eric Adams announced he had tested positive for Covid-19. He woke up with a raspy voice and decided to take a PCR test out of an abundance of caution. Adam’s press secretary noted that he was experiencing no other symptoms and is self-isolating. Adams canceled all of his in-person events planned for this week.

Mayor Adams has been a proponent of vaccination and has been vaccinated against Covid-19. Adam’s press secretary said:

“He will also “immediately,” start taking anti-viral medications, which are offered for free to NYC residents, and (Adams) encourages all New Yorkers eligible for these meds to take them as well.”

After Adams took a PCR test, he took a rapid test, which came back negative. Even so, he will likely appear virtually for all events this week.

It is believed Adams contracted the virus after attending The Gridiron Club and Foundation’s annual dinner in Washington, D.C. The event wound up being a super spreader event, with 53 of the 630 attendees testing positive for Covid-19.

Adams, who is a supporter of mask and mask mandates, appeared maskless at several events this month. Mask mandates are still in place in New York City for children ages 2-5 years old.

Some Twitter users were not pleased with Adam’s seemingly careless decision to not wear a mask. One user tweeted, “So @NYCMayor was at the Gridiron Dinner, a superspreader w/ 67 cases and He knew he was exposed, but he attended the @ReelAbilitiesFilm Fest maskless, exposing hundreds of vulnerable people with disabilities.”
