Pedophile Drinks Unknown Liquid During Verdict Reading and Dies

As he was found guilty of child sexual abuse, a Texas pedophile appeared to fatally poison himself in the courtroom.

Edward Leclair, 57, was a free man until Thursday, August 11, when he appeared in court to hear the outcome of the five counts in his case. He began to “chug” from a bottle of water as the verdicts were read.

Denton County Assistant District Attorney Jamie Beck noted the water seemed cloudy. He explained:

“Our investigator noticed him chug the water. He told the bailiff he might want to go check on him. The bailiff did. He was unconscious in the holding cell.”

Shortly after entering the holding cell, Leclair began retching and emergency services were called, according to his attorney, Mike Howard.

Howard also corroborated the water story, claiming his client was indeed drinking from the water bottle while listening to the verdict but did not know what was in it.

Leclair was pronounced dead at the Medical City Denton hospital at 3:21 p.m. on Thursday, according to preliminary data from the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. The cause of death is currently under investigation and an autopsy is pending.
