People Aged 3 and Up Now Required to Show Proof of Negative Covid Test or Vaccination to enter SAP Center

Starting on December 9, anyone aged 3-11 years old must show proof of vaccination, or a negative covid test, before entering SAP Center in San Jose, CA. The stadium already requires anyone aged 12 and older to show proof of vaccination upon entry.

The Sharks released a statement:

“Effective Thursday, December 9, 2021, all guests ages 3-11 who visit SAP Center at San Jose must be fully vaccinated or show proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of the event. As announced in August, all guests ages 12 and older are still required to show proof of full vaccination upon entry. These requirements will remain in place until state and local health and safety guidance is revised.”

The new rules come on the heels of California’s mandate, which requires that all attendees three and older have to either provide a negative test taken within 72 hours or proof of vaccination. This applies to indoor events with 1,000 people or more. The mandate has been in place for mega-events since November 18, but this is the first week it will be enforced.

Children under two years old are exempt from the testing requirements. Everyone aged 18 and over must show identification to validate their vaccination record. The stadium has encouraged people to create a health pass on the CLEAR app. They claim this will shorten the wait times to get into the building. Parents or guardians of kids age 12 and 13 will need to provide physical proof of the minor’s vaccination status.

Interestingly, the NHL has not yet mandated the Covid-19 vaccine for their players. They heavily encourage vaccination for their players. Those who are not vaccinated have to follow much stricter protocols than the vaccinated players. Those who test positive for Covid-19 cannot participate in club activities. An unvaccinated player is only allowed at the practice facility, team hotel, and arena. They are not allowed in restaurants or bars.

The Sharks have already been dealing with Covid-19 protocol drama this season. Forward Evander Kane was suspended in October for submitting a fake vaccination card. He was placed on a 21 game suspension and has yet to play this season.

The SAP stadium will offer free Covid testing on-site about an hour before the doors open.
