Phoenix Joins Federal Lawsuit Against Vaccine Mandates

Arizona’s Attorney General Mark Brnovich amended his federal lawsuit after the City of Phoenix announced it would be enforcing Biden’s unlawful vaccine mandate.

The lawsuit now includes the unions representing Phoenix police officers and firefighters, who are not keen on getting the vaccine.

Executive Vice President Bryan Willingham of the United Phoenix Firefighters Association said he doesn’t know how many members are vaccinated or not. He stressed, “I just know it is dividing all of them. It’s hurting the community right now even before we get into the mandate.”

Nearly 90% of the calls Phoenix Fire Department receives are medical calls, meaning they are on the front lines just as much as doctors and nurses.

He goes on to say, “Anyone who would want to judge us as a local for defending these members or those members who are choosing not to get vaccinated, the information has been confusing enough, I don’t know how anybody deciphers through it, I really don’t.”

Willingham isn’t necessarily against the vaccine in general, but the unconstitutional mandates that force vaccination. The union has encouraged members to get vaccinated while also advocating for their members’ right to choose.

According to AZCentral, more than half of city employees have already submitted their proof of vaccination. Meanwhile, only 37% of police department employees and 33% of fire department employees are vaccinated.

It is one of three lawsuits that Brnovich filed against the Biden administration after the president issued executive orders requiring all federal workers, contractors, and private employers with 100 or more employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Those working in a private employer setting have the option of being tested weekly instead of getting vaccinated.

Governor Doug Ducey had been relatively quiet on the matter until Monday. He confirmed that the people are not happy with City Manager Jeff Barton’s choice to enforce the mandate.

“It’s not being received well, I can tell you on both the police force and the fire department,” explained the governor on Monday. “I had one of those friends call me and say if they’re going to terminate him, he’s going to take the termination; he is not ready to get the vaccine.”

The U.S. Department of Justice has until December 3 to respond to the lawsuit.
