Police are Working Tirelessly to Find Missing Geologist in the Arizona Desert

Daniel Robinson has been missing for three months now. He left his Buckeye, Arizona, job site on June 23 near Sun Valley Parkway and Cactus Road in his 2017 blue Jeep Renegade. The 24-year-old has not been seen or heard from since.

A month later, on July 20, his vehicle was found crashed in a ravine four miles away from the job site with his wallet, phone, clothes, and keys still inside. The airbag was deployed, and the vehicle appeared to have landed on its side.

In a statement released on their Twitter account, Buckeye Police Department said, “Since his disappearance, the Buckeye Police Department has worked with outside agencies to search more than 70 square miles in an effort to locate Daniel. Investigators have utilized UTVs, cadaver dogs, and air support, including a drone and a helicopter.”

Daniel is 5-foot-8, with black hair, brown eyes, and lives in Tempe. His distinctive feature is his missing right forearm and hand.

Daniel is from South Carolina, where his family still resides. He graduated from the College of Charleston two years ago and moved to Arizona to work as a field geologist for Matrix New World Engineering.

Daniel was in regular communication with his family, so they began to worry when they hadn’t heard from him.

“I love my son,” Daniel’s father, David Robinson, said. “We have a really close relationship. Our family’s really close. He’s close with his mother, his siblings, and other family members. We have our own little relationships. Our phone conversations are one to two hours long. We discuss everything. I have to find my son. He wouldn’t quit on anybody. I can’t quit on him.”

David has upped the ante and enlisted the help of private investigator Jeff McGrath in locating his son.

McGrath says that according to the vehicle’s black box, it was involved in some type of crash. The vehicle data reveals that it was driven for an additional 11 miles after the initial crash. The black box has also confirmed more “accidents” occurred, and then the car was started an additional 40 times after that.

David told the West Valley View, “The Buckeye Police Department is still working on the case. They found the vehicle, but they didn’t do a forensic-type investigation because they didn’t see any blood in the vehicle. They didn’t swab for DNA or some of the typical things they would do in some type of investigation. I expressed these concerns, and they decided — because of that — to swab the vehicle to look for fingerprints at the police compound where the vehicle is stored.”

A human skull was recently found, but it was confirmed not to be Daniel’s. No other human remains have been found at this time.

Initially, foul play was not suspected though Buckeye PD is continuing to investigate.

David said it is improbable that his son just walked away and disappeared of his own accord.

“He would call me all the time,” recalls David. “He wanted me to see the rock formations. He started learning how to hike. He enjoyed nature and things like that. He’s a funny guy. He has a lot of friends. He can make friends easily. He’s a very outspoken guy, but he doesn’t judge people. He’s an extraordinary guy.”
