Poll of New Hampshire Voters Shows DeSantis Leading Trump

New Hampshire has held the first primary for a presidential election in the country for over 100 years. A public opinion survey showed that Governor Ron DeSantis has a slim lead over President Trump for a 2024 candidate. 39% of those polled would support DeSantis with 377% supporting Trump.

The respondents were given a list of potential candidates for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination. Former Vice President Mike Pence received 9%, while former UN Ambassador, Nikki Haley landed at 6%.

New Hampshire Republicans showed strong support for Governor DeSantis. The UNH Survey reported, “A party’s losing candidate in the prior election is typically the best-known person in the party. As the primary gets closer, new candidates emerge and attract more media attention, and therefore more voter attention, than the losing candidate from the previous election.”

A New Hampshire GOP consultant credits DeSantis’s popularity to increased media attention. That, combined with Trump not being in the media as much has helped propel DeSantis forward. Among GOP voters, DeSantis has a net 66% favorability, compared with Trump’s 46% favorability.
