President Biden’s Approval Rating Drops to New Low

According to a new Gallup poll, President Biden’s popularity rating has dropped to 43% after eight months in office. This is the lowest level of support the firm has recorded for the first-term Democrat president. The poll was conducted from September 1 to 17 and revealed that a majority of Americans disapprove of Biden’s job performance, with 53% of individuals in the United States expressing disapproval of his presidency.

Among independent voters, Gallup found Biden to have his lowest approval rating to date, at 37%, a substantial decline from his peak of 61% percent during his first month in office. However, his approval rating among Democrats has remained strong, dropping to 90% this month. Only 6% of Republicans gave him good ratings for the month.

The poll was conducted shortly after the United States withdrew from Afghanistan. President Biden vowed to altogether remove the military presence from the country marred by the Taliban’s rapid consolidation of power 20 years after America toppled the militant group. Biden faced criticism from both sides of the political aisle for his handling of the chaotic efforts to remove Americans and vulnerable Afghans from the nation, particularly after an ISIS suicide attack at Kabul’s airport killed 13 US military personnel and at least 169 Afghan civilians.  Biden also conducted a drone strike meant to thwart a suspected terror attack. The strike killed Afghan civilians, including children.

Biden announced several vaccine mandates while the poll was being conducted, including requiring all US employers with 100 or more employees to force their workers to get fully vaccinated against Covid-19 or submit to weekly testing. The backlash was swift from Republican leaders in several states. Republicans and business organizations slammed the regulations as government overreach. 24 Republican attorneys general threatened to sue Biden over the workplace vaccination mandate, with Arizona being the first to file suit over the requirement.

Biden’s poor Gallup approval rating follows a Quinnipiac University survey issued last week that found the president has a 42% overall approval rating, with 50% disapproving of his job performance. Biden’s poor performance has also been highlighted by left-leaning NBC host Chuck Todd, who noted that Biden has “a pretty big credibility crisis.”

Paul Bedard of the Washington Examiner stated, “The poor showing of Biden and Harris is starting to make Democrats nervous as they brace for the 2022 midterm elections and as voters in Virginia and New Jersey prepare to vote for their governors in November.”

The recent Gallup poll included a random sample of more than 1,000 US citizens and had a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
