Pro-Abortion Protestors Block Streets As They Await Supreme Court Ruling

Pro-choice activists are attempting to block the streets in front of the Supreme Court in anticipation of the court’s ruling. The activists lined the streets on Monday when they thought the ruling would be announced.

In February, a draft of the Supreme Court’s decision on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The case deals with the banning of abortion in Mississippi after 15 weeks of pregnancy. The leaked draft opinion stated the court would overturn Roe V. Wade completely and end the court’s recognition of a constitutional right to abortion.

The group ShutDownDC posted on their website

“On June 13, one of the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision days, we plan to blockade the streets around the Supreme Court to rise up for the transformative change that our communities need. Right now our political system is in crisis. Times of crisis can either be opportunities to break through the inertia and win transformational change or they can be opportunities for the establishment to further entrench the status quo.”

The court issued five opinions on Monday but did not release Dobbs v. Jackson. The next scheduled release date is Wednesday.

The protests and street blockades come in addition to demonstrations made outside the justice’s homes.
