Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., is the new chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. He believes Democrats will overreach after assuming control of the White House and both chambers of Congress next week.
Scott was optimistic that the GOP can regain the majority in the Senate in the 2022 midterm elections.
Scott said during an interview with Fox News that Democrats’ policies will prompt voters to turn away.
“I would have rather won these two Georgia seats, but I think we’re going to see a clear choice,” he said. “Over the next two years, the Democrats are going to try to do a whole bunch of things the public doesn’t want. They don’t want packing the Supreme Court. They don’t want higher taxes and more regulation. They don’t want the police defunded.”
“I think the Democrats now have the ability to go do some things. I think it’s going to help define them and I think it’s going to help us have a big win in 2022,” he added
Looking forward, Scott said he is already working hard to recruit good candidates.
“I’ve been reaching out to people all around the country and I’ve had conversations all around the country,” the senator said. “It’s my job to recruit good candidates which I’m going to work hard to do. It’s my job to raise the money to make sure they can win the elections.”
Scott told the Fox & Friends morning crew that he does not plan to do what the Democrats are doing.
“I think we need to lower the rhetoric,” he suggested. “We need to get some unity going. If Joe Biden wants to get his administration on course, the Democrats need to start thinking about what they would like to accomplish rather than having a vendetta against Donald Trump.”
“So in my role as a chair of the NRSC, I’m going to talk about the issues. I’m going to make sure we have great candidates,” Scott continued. “We have great incumbents running and we’re going to make sure we get a majority back in ‘22 because we are on the right side of the issues. We have got to do a good job running our races.”
As for impeachment, the former governor of Florida said Democrats should be more focused on the American family.
“Doing something for families across this country does not include impeaching a president,” Scott insisted. “I mean, what’s the benefit to the Democrats of doing that? All they’re going to do, instead of it being Joe Biden’s agenda, we’re going to have to continue to focus on the Democrats’ agenda to hurt the past.”
Scott said Biden wants unity and then “calls his opponents Nazis.”
“Joe Biden is not going to get anything done if he continues down this path,” he said. “And neither will the Democrats.”
“All these vendettas in the past, it makes no sense,” Scott said. “This should be a time of unity, a time of hope for the future and that’s not what the Democrats are doing.”
Interestingly, he didn’t rule out a role for Trump in the 2022 midterm elections.
“There’s probably going to be places where he can be helpful, and there’s places where he won’t be helpful,” Scott said of the president. “It’s sort of up to him. He got 74 million votes. He continues to have support. He had record fundraising online.”
