School Board President Caught on Hot Mic Cursing Concerned Parent

The President of the Los Alamitos Unified School District was caught on a hot mic cursing at a parent during Tuesday’s meeting. Parents showed up to express concerns about the California school’s mask and vaccine mandates.

A mother of students in the district, Lauren Roupoli, spoke at the board meeting to urge the board to eliminate mask mandates. She pleaded with the board to leave the decision to mask the kids up to the parents.

During her speaking time, she said, “What side of history are you willing to participate in? Leave our children alone. Let them be kids and enjoy one another. Let them breathe again and smile again… We are vocal because we are our children’s biggest advocates.”

Her speech was met with applause from the audience members. The board president, Marlys Davidson, told Roupoli her time was up and called for the next speaker. Davidson didn’t realize her mic was still on and told Roupoli, “F*** you.” Davidson issued an apology, but it appears it is too little, too late.

Davidson claims she has “sincerely apologized.” In a released statement, she said, “I am going to personally apologize to the speaker who most certainly deserves to know that when members of the public address the Board of Education, they must be heard with respect. These are trying times, but trying times demand that we rise to do our best. I reaffirm my commitment to serve our community with dignity and integrity, and I hope they will accept my sincere apology.”

Roupoli told KTLA, “After her true colors showed last night, there’s no taking that back. She needs to step down.” Roupoli felt the apology was not sincere. She also noted that the school board is not seriously listening to parents’ concerns.

Roupoli and other parents’ biggest concerns are the indoor mask mandates for students in K-12 schools. California Governor Gavin Newsome will also require all eligible kids aged 12 and older to be vaccinated against Covid-19. The mandates affect both public and private schools.

This incident is just another in the confrontations between concerned parents and school board members. No decision has been made on the future of Davidson’s school board career. Roupoli has called for her to resign, but nothing has officially been done.
