Senator Rand Paul has compiled credible evidence proving that NIAID director, Dr. Anthony Fauci, lied to Congress about gain-of-function research on coronaviruses.
This morning, Paul tweeted the admission report written by National Institutes of Health chief scientist Dr. Shi Zhengli. The report outlines “discovery of rich gene pool of bat SARS-related coronaviruses provides new insights into the origin of coronavirus.”
“MIT biologist Kevin Esvelt reviewed this paper that was published with financial assistance from Dr. Fauci’s NIH/NIAID and concluded ‘certain techniques that the researchers used seemed to meet the definition of gain-of-function. ” Paul stated via Twitter.

During a Senate Health Committee hearing on the federal COVID response, Paul called out Fauci for lying to Congress in May when he denied that the National Institute of Health was involved in bat coronavirus research in China. Paul also reminds Fauci of the penalty for lying to Congress.
Instead of admitting to the numerous scientific articles Paul cited, Fauci goes on a rant in an attempt to discredit Paul.

“Knowing that it is a crime to lie to Congress…do you wish to retract your May 11 claim that the NIH never funded gain-of-function research in Wuhan?” Paul asked Fauci.
“Senator Paul, I have never lied before the Congress, and I do not retract that statement,” Fauci answered. “This paper was judged by qualified staff up and down the chain as not being gain-of-function.”
“When you take an animal virus, and you increase its transmissibility to humans—you’re saying that’s not gain-of-function research?” Paul asked.
Fauci, raising his voice, answered, “That is correct, and Senator Paul, you do not know what you are talking about, quite frankly! And I want to say that officially. You do not know what you are talking about.”
With Fauci getting more and more upset at the accusations, the fiery exchange continues, as Paul tells Fauci he is “dancing” around the responsibility Wuhan may have played in COVID-19.
“If the point that you are making is that the grant that was funded as a sub-award from EcoHealth to Wuhan created SARS-COV-2, that’s where you are getting,” Fauci said pointing two fingers at Paul before the senator cut him off.
Paul interjects that the main point is that gain-of-function was, in fact, being conducted at the Wuhan lab and that all involved, including Dr. Fauci, are responsible for it.
“I totally resent the lie that you are now propagating, Senator,” Fauci said.
Unless Fauci has forgotten, Fauci suggested in a May interview that he was “not convinced” the COVID-19 virus evolved naturally and has called for additional research into the virus’s true origin.
Again, Paul reminds Fauci that the evidence shows gain-of-function research was taking place, and the NIH helped fund it and lied to Congress about it.
“Those viruses are molecularly impossible to result in SARS-CoV-2…You are implying what we did was responsible for the deaths of individuals. If anybody is lying here, Senator, it is you,” Fauci concludes.
No matter how much Fauci tries to gaslight the public, he cannot deny the numerous reports issued by his colleagues and peers at the NIH. Documents obtained by The Mail on Sunday expose that the Wuhan Institute of Virology conducted coronavirus experiments on mammals captured more than 1,000 miles away in Yunnan, with a $3.7 million grant from the US government.
