Texas Senator Ted Cruz strongly criticized Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas for his leadership over the disaster at the U.S.-Mexico border. Townhall reports that during a heated exchange, Cruz asked Mayorkas if White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was lying when she said people were not walking across the border. Mayorkas refused to answer the question and accused Cruz of being disrespectful.
DHS Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas admits he doesn’t know how many migrants have died under Biden.
Sen. Ted Cruz: “Of course you don’t! I know how many died, 853! … You go back to 1998, you see it's consistently between 300 to 400… Suddenly 2021. What happens? You get in office!” pic.twitter.com/sYPraUXxm2

Cruz also questioned Mayorkas on the number of illegal immigrants who died at the southern border in the previous fiscal year. Mayorkas replied that he did not know the number, and Cruz revealed that it was 853, significantly higher than in years prior. Cruz then pressed Mayorkas on his knowledge of the bracelets that human smugglers put on people to track who has paid and who is set to be taken illegally into the country. Mayorkas admitted he did not know what the bracelets looked like, to which Cruz responded by stating that these bracelets are modern-day leg irons because they are used to traffic children into sex slavery.
Mayorkas replied that DHS is doing everything possible to go after human smuggling and trafficking operations. Still, Cruz accused Mayorkas of refusing to do his job and being willing to let children be raped to follow political orders. Cruz ended by stating that Mayorkas’ refusal to address the crisis at the southern border was “revolting.”
