Add CNN anchor Don Lemon to the list of high-profile men that have been accused of inappropriate touching. Unlike his colleague, Chris Cuomo, Lemon’s accuser is a gay man. The allegations against Lemon first surfaced in 2018, and the case is expected to end up in court in early 2022.
In 2019, Dustin Hice filed a lawsuit against Lemon, accusing him of assault and battery at Murf’s Backstreet Tavern in 2018. Hice claims that he was working at the bar and recognized Lemon when he came in. Hice tried to get his attention to offer him a drink, but Lemon refused. Later into the night, Hice claims that Lemon assaulted him.
Hice alleged that Lemon put his hand down his pants, rubbed his genitals, then shoved his fingers under Hice’s nose and mustache. The lawsuit adds, “Lemon intensely pushed his fingers against Plaintiff’s face under Plaintiff’s nose, forcing Plaintiff’s head thrust backward as Defendant repeatedly asked Plaintiff ‘Do you like p***y or d**k?’ While saying this, Mr. Lemon continued to shove his fingers into Plaintiff’s face with aggression and hostility.” Lemon responded to the initial claim by calling the lawsuit “frivolous” and denying all wrongdoing.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, there was a lengthy discovery process keeping the case out of court. Fox News reports the case is ongoing and may wind up in court as early as January 2022. Hice told Fox News, “I’m not doing this for notoriety or fame, I’m doing this because I’m standing up for myself and what I believe in…” I’ve grown a new respect for people dealing with mental health issues because of stress, depression, anxiety, those are all very serious things. It consumed my life.” Hice demanded $1.5 million before filing the complaint.
Hice believes that Lemon’s “vile and lewd” behavior would be taken more seriously if he were a woman. The lawsuit says, “…an American journalist, and Emmy Award winning news anchor for Cable News Network (CNN), who among other things, purports to be a staunch advocate for the ‘Me Too’ movement, a social movement meant to bring awareness and give a voice to victims of sexual assault and sexual harassment. When the cameras are turned off, however, Mr. Lemon’s actions are in stark and disturbing contrast to the public persona he attempts to portray.”
All three men that have been accused of sexual misconduct, the Cuomo brothers and Don Lemon, hold powerful political positions. Chris Cuomo and Don Lemon are news anchors with left-wing media bias, while Andrew Cuomo was the Democrat Governor of New York.
