A man seen on security camera footage attacking a bank customer with a hatchet at a New York ATM has been arrested.

ABC 7 reports Aaron Garcia of Yonkers is now behind bars following the brutal attack. The video obtained by the New York Post shows Garcia, 37, attacking Miguel Solorzano, 50, at a Chase bank ATM in Lower Manhattan with a hatchet. Garcia takes the hatchet from his backpack, walks towards Solorzano, and swings it at him. Solorzano tries to fight back against the attack before falling to the ground. After Garcia attacked Solorzana, he smashed the ATMs and dropped the weapon before leaving the scene. Soloranza was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he required two surgeries.

Two days later, Garcia was spotted in Manhattan’s Chelsea district approaching another person with a hammer. The potential target, who requested to remain anonymous, told ABC 7, “Someone bumped into me and I turned and looked up and saw this very tall menacing man, he looked crazy and had a hammer in his hand, and he pulled it back behind his head as though he was about to strike me.” The second potential victim was not injured, but Garcia reportedly smashed windows of cars and buildings in the neighborhood.

Garcia was arrested on Wednesday and is charged with attempted murder, assault, and criminal mischief.
