Suspect In Shooting Of Officer Raynor Captured In Georgia

The suspect in the shooting of Officer Jason Raynor was found and arrested Saturday morning. The Daytona Beach Police Twitter account released a photo of the suspect, Othal Wallace, to announce he “has been captured!”

Chief Jakari Young addressed the press shortly after the Twitter announcement saying, “at approximately 2:30 this morning, a search warrant was executed on a property that was located just outside of Atlanta, Georgia.” He told the press he was “thrilled to announce” that “the search warrant has resulted in the arrest of Othal Wallace.”

Chief Young said that Daytona Beach Police Officers assigned to the task force “were on scene” and “put Officer Raynor’s handcuffs on Wallace. Georgia State Patrol, along with several agencies, assisted in the search that found Wallace in Georgia. According to DBPD, Othal Wallace was found on a several-acre heavily wooded property with connections to a national black supremacy organization.

“The property is affiliated with an organization called the not effing around coalition or just simply known as the NFAC,” said Chief Young. He described the NFAC as a “black nationalist paramilitary organization.”

The leader of the NFAC, John Johnson or Grandmaster Jay, was arrested and charged with “assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers or employees,” according to WDRB. Johnson reportedly pointed a gun at law enforcement during the race riots in Louisville, Kentucky. He also allegedly taught his members how to dismantle police body cameras to eliminate the evidence and encouraged them to commit violence against the police.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood told the Daytona Beach City-Journal, “I think that this is a grave crisis that’s facing America right now, because any extremist militia group, I don’t care whether they’re white, Black or Hispanic, whatever they are, they are a danger to society, and they are a danger to democracy.”

Sheriff Chitwood indicated that Wallace might have learned these tactics and used them on Officer Raynor’s body camera. He said that the video didn’t stop because the department cut the feed. He said, “It ends because the power cord is taken from the camera so; therefore, the camera couldn’t record anymore. He methodically, in my opinion, dismantled the camera before he shot Jason.”

Chief Young announced that Othal Wallace was found on the NFAC’s property hiding in a treehouse. He said that Wallace possessed “multiple flashbangs, rifle plates, body armor, two rifles, two handguns, and several boxes of ammunition.” He said authorities also found “a large arsenal of weapons” in the “main residence.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis reacted to the news that Wallace had been found saying that “there is no place for hate in Florida. Our law enforcement will be protected. Justice will be swift.”

The Daytona Beach Police Twitter announced that Officer Raynor is still fighting in critical condition. Several fundraisers are actively accepting donations to help Officer Raynor recover.
