Last week former President Donald Trump announced that he was accepting an invitation to the U.S. – Mexico border by Texas Governor Greg Abbott. The headlines wrote themselves, “Trump to visit the border before the borer czar, Kamala Harris!”
Kamala Harris’s office announced today that the Vice President would finally make it to the southern border, according to Biden’s Press Secretary Jen Psaki. Psaki reported that VP Harris is bringing Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
“Earlier this year, the President asked the Vice President to oversee our diplomatic efforts to address the root causes of migration from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. As a part of this ongoing work, the Vice President traveled to Guatemala and Mexico earlier this month and will travel to El Paso on Friday,” confirmed Symone Sanders.
The press pushed Biden’s Press Secretary on the apparent appearance that Kamala Harris is only going to the border because Trump announced he would be. Jen Psaki responded, “[VP Harris] has said that when it was the right time, she may go to visit the border. And, so, uh. This trip on Friday, which is being done in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security.”
She claims that “the planning and timing of it was done in coordination with them.” Psaki was insinuating that VP Harris’ trip is in no way reflective of Trump’s travel plans.
President Trump disagrees. His official statement reads, “After months of ignoring the crisis at the Southern Border, it is great that we got Kamala Harris to finally go and see the tremendous destruction and death that they’ve created – a direct result of Biden ending my very tough but fair Border policies.”
He said, “Harris and Biden were given the strongest Border in American history. And now, it is by far the worst in American history. If Governor Abbott and I weren’t going there next week, she would have never gone!”

Earlier this month, Harris laughed off questions about her lack of travel to the southern border with NBC’s Lester Holt. When asked if she was planning a visit, the obviously nervous Harris cackled back, “I, at some point, you know, we are going to the border. We’ve been to the border.”
Obviously, she had not been to the border, and when Holt pressed her about the issue, she said, “And I haven’t been to Europe.”
Just last week, House Republicans wrote a letter to President Biden demanding that he removed Vice President Harris as the border czar. They wrote, “At the time of her appointment, [President Biden] stated, ‘I can think of nobody who is better qualified to do this.’ We disagree. This country cannot afford another minute of inaction from Vice President Harris.”
They claimed, “While you (President Biden) have publically defended the Vice President, even you must be discouraged with her inaction. We have all made mistakes in hiring and understand when someone needs to be assigned to a task. We sincerely urge you to find someone else in your administration to assist you in getting a handle on this border crisis.”
The @VP STILL hasn't visited the border. You can't truly know the situation until you speak with people on the ground. I and 55 of my colleagues sent this letter to @POTUS demanding her removal from this position because 180k encounters, a 21-year high, is unacceptable. pic.twitter.com/PJE0RpgTaV

They do not believe that it is Kamala Harris.
Reporter: "Was it important for the White House to have [Kamala Harris] seen at the border before former President Trump has a trip there next week?
Jen Psaki: We made an assessment within our government about when it was an appropriate time for her to go to the border." pic.twitter.com/YuZtnL4RTy
