Two House Members are Asking Wyoming Dems to Switch Parties and Vote for Liz Cheney

When all else fails, switch parties. At least that’s what two House Democrats are pushing in new Facebook ads asking Wyoming registered Democrats to back anti-Trump Republican Liz Cheney.

Cheney, a Republican only by technicality, has repeatedly sided with liberals so much that Wyoming Democrats were urged by Representatives Tom Malinowski (NJ) and Dean Phillips (MN) to “consider temporarily switching parties” to support one of Donald Trump’s most outspoken detractors against her Trump-backed rival, Harriet Hageman.

As a result of her vote to impeach Trump after January 6, 2021, and her participation in the House Select Committee to look into the events of that day, the congressman in Wyoming has also encountered fierce resistance from members of her own party. She is scrambling to get the votes needed to remain on November’s midterm ballot.

In his ad, Malinowski said:

“Liz Cheney and I don’t agree on everything, but we’re on the same side today, fighting for our country. Wyoming Democrats can put country over party too, by registering to vote for her in the Republican primary. I hope you do.”

Phillips asked Wyoming Democrats to switch their party for August 16 in his advertisement and said:

“You might be a little surprised that I’d be supporting Liz Cheney in her bid to continue representing Wyoming in the U.S. House, but principle must always come before politics, and nobody has shown more honor, integrity, and courage than she.”

While a mail-in request must be submitted 14 days prior to voting, a Wyoming voter can change parties at polling locations on the day of the primary or general election or when requesting an absentee ballot. Voters can switch their party again for future elections.

Cheney herself released a campaign video that featured her father and former vice president, Dick Cheney.

The senior Cheney slammed Trump:

“In our nation’s 246-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our Republic than Donald Trump. He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him.”
