Two Virginia men charged with stealing gas and selling it at discount

Two men in Virginia were apprehended and charged with selling stolen gas from a closed gas station at a discounted price. The Washington Examiner reports that Rashane Griffith, 24, and Devon Drumgoole, 21, were detained by Virginia Beach police on Thursday after they saw a strange amount of automobiles at a shuttered Citgo station.

Police claim the suspects had gadgets that allowed them to hack into the pumps. Griffith and Drumgoole have been accused of selling gas to motorists after receiving payment via an app. According to Lt. Brad Wesseler, the two took $14,000 worth of gas.

The men have been charged with grand theft, conspiracy, and possession of burglary tools.  Police are now looking into whether the pair hit just one gas station or multiple across Virginia. Wesseler said they are investigating stations in Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads.

More charges are expected to be filed as the investigation continues. Additionally, authorities are deciding whether or not to charge customers who purchased the reportedly illicit gas.
